Carnival Corp raised its annual profit forecast on Wednesday, anticipating a record year of bookings as the company benefits from a rise in people seeking cruise vacations for the first time. "The first quarter has been fantastic across the board," CEO Josh Weinstein said on a post-earnings call. "We delivered record bookings and record customer deposits again this quarter, a great start to the year." Bookings for the rest of 2024 remain the best year on record with total customer deposits reaching $7 billion in the first quarter, the company said. New-to-cruise customers surged more than 30% year-over-year, Carnival said.

The Port of Baltimore said in a post on X that vessel traffic was suspended until further notice, but trucks were still being processed at its terminals. It said it would discharge cargo destined for Baltimore in other ports nearby, but Maesrk warned customers that could mean delays. Closer to the Midwest than any other port on the East Coast, Baltimore is a major hub for vehicles, containers and commodities. Baltimore ranks first among US ports for autos and light trucks, handling a record 850,000 vehicles last year. While many of the 30,000 to 35,000 cars and trucks that used the Key Bridge daily can be rerouted through the two nearby tunnels, that will cause traffic delays.

CNN —Heath Barnes opened his book on the upper decks of the Bahamas-bound Carnival Freedom cruise ship in between bouts of rain. Cruise ship officials reported the fire broke out on the port side of the ship’s exhaust funnel around 3:15 p.m. local time, according to a news release from Carnival Cruise Line. Witnesses reported the ship may have been struck by lightning, but that has not been confirmed and the cause is still being investigated, according to the cruise line. The ship visited Freeport on Sunday, Carnival said, adding there were no operational issues with the ship’s systems. This was his 18th Carnival Cruise trip.

The Manhattanhenge ranked as the top must-see travel experience, according to Google data collected by Kuoni. 2 must-see travel experience in the world is the Venice Carnival in Italy, with over 1.2 million annual searches.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings on Tuesday reported its first profitable year since 2019 as fourth-quarter losses narrowed dramatically. The cruise company reported strong growth and ticket demand with an encouraging 2024 forecast. Adjusting for one-time items, Norwegian reported a loss per share of 18 cents. "Norwegian Cruise Line Holding experienced a momentous year of growth and achievement in 2023," CEO Harry Sommer said in a statement.

I never buy drink packages since I don't drink enough to get my money’s worth. I like to have a nice cocktail or two, but I don't drink enough for a whole package. Plus, the packages really vary across companies — some cruise lines give you 15 drinks a day while others have unlimited options. Unfortunately, on every cruise I've been on, everyone (of legal drinking age) in the same stateroom has to make the same decision on drink packages.
